Hostels in Bucharest

As a proud citizen of Bucharest for several years, naturally, I didn’t have the chance of spending even one night in one of the several hostels in our capital so, I have no advice for you regarding the main features you’re looking for: the staff, the fun, the cleanliness or the security. Instead, I can help you make a decision based on the location of a hostel related in relation with the main attractions the city has to offer.

The hostels bellow come from www.hostelworld.com. If you want information about a hostel not present in the list please write a comment and I will gladly help you.

Friends Hostel – Mircea Vulcanescu Street

Connections to Airport/Railway – good place to be if you’re looking for easy access both to Otopeni Airport or the main Railway Station.

Main Railway – within walking distance – about 1 km

Airport – you have multiple options: either take the express line (780) from the North Railway Station or take a train from the same location.

Means of transport in the city: Decent place to be. You have in the near proximity buses or trolleys that can take you to the city center. The metro is a little far – maybe 10-15 minutes on foot.

Proximity: the area near the North Railway Station isn’t the most pleasant in Bucharest. On certain streets you will find junkies, street children, beggars and gypsy hookers at night. Nevertheless, the hostel isn’t in the middle of such an area, it’s more at the end of it. From here you can wander on streets with older houses and villas – between Mircea Vulcanescu, Calea Plevnei, Stirei Voda and Schitu Magureanu Streets.

Regarding nightlife – the hostel is located midway between the old center of Bucharest and Regie (the main student district) – the nightlife main hotspots.

Funky Chicken and Buterfly Villa Hostels – On General Berthlot and Constantin Stahl Streets (50 meters one from another)

Connections to Airport/Railway – not so good as Friends Hostel. 20-25 minute walk to the North Railway Station or 10-15 minute walk and then take a bus (for more details ask at the hostel).

Means of transport in the city: not much options near the hostels. You would have to walk 10-15 minutes to find better means. The metro is pretty far away.

Proximity: Both hostels are situated on the northern side of square drawn by the Mircea Vulcanescu, Calea Plevnei, Stirei Voda and Schitu Magureanu Streets in a similar area as Friends Hostel – see above – but closer to the city center. 5 minutes from here you will find Cismigiu Garden, maybe the poshest park in Bucharest.

Midland Youth Hostel and YMCA Universitaria Hostellocated in the city center – between Romana Square and Universitatii Square

Connections to Airport/Railway – pretty good. From Romana Square you have buses both for North Railway (133) and to Baneasa / Otopeni Airports (express line 783)

Means of transport in the city: good travelling options throughout the city (buses, trolleys and subway within walking distance)

Proximity: hostels located in the city center.

Wonderland Hostel – located in the city center – near Universitatii Square

Connections to Airport/Railway – From Universitatii Square you have buses both for North Railway (trolley 85) and to Baneasa / Otopeni Airports (express line 783)
