When to travel

The perfect time for traveling really depends on what you want to do in Romania.

  • Traveling for winter sports – the best skiing times are, of course in winter – from late December to early March. Depending on the ski resort you can still practice winter sports till April or even May.
  • Carpathian Mountains – best period for hiking and climbing starts from May and lasts till September. Although mountain weather is notorious for its sudden changes, you can have the best chances of a dry and warm vacation in August and September
  • Traveling for city breaks – the best periods are May, June and September. In the summer the heat, the dust, the crowded cities may deter you in having the best experience
  • Traveling for fishing & bird watching –the Danube Delta. Depending on the type, the fishing periods may be different: endangered species cannot be fished all over the year, for all the other species, fishing is forbidden in the breeding periods. The best fishing period is from August to late September while bird watching can be done in spring and summer.
  • Religious tourism – all year round

From your budget point of view, Romania is different from the Western countries because here there aren’t 2 seasons with low and high prices. Aside from seaside resorts – in summer and mountain resorts in summer / winter, the prices are pretty much the same all year round.
